A-    Geographical Situation

Sebastopolis is situated 2 km east of Kızılca Town that is 19 km west of Tavas District of Denizli. The city is in the middle of a bowl-shaped valley, on a land that is used by both of Kızılca and Aydoğdu Towns.

B-    History

Although the date of first settlement of the city cannot be known for sure, the remaining on the surface have traces of Roman and Byzantine eras. It was situated on a trade road that led thorough Herakleia, Apollonia to Kibyra Valley so it showed contemporariness with those cities.

C-    Ruins of the City

Although there are traces of vast settlements around area, it is not possible to see well preserved ruins on the surface. There are some traces of the parts of the buildings. Since it is in the border of new habitation, there has been agricultural works on most of the antique city and on the other parts where there is not agricultural works, there is erosion handicap. Some traces of antique buildings have been uncovered on the land where agriculture is. But there is no integrity among those ruins.

1-Tumulus Hill : It is a 150 m. wide and 7 m. high tumulus. It consist the Acropolis of the city. The ruins of a basis of a monumental building and ruins of a wall around it strengthen the possibility of a temple around the hill. The marble work that can rarely be seen on the area has Roman characteristic.

2-Stadion:It is about 60*150m. and is severely damaged because of  the agricultural work. Traces of some steps can be seen and the bottom of it is filled up because of erosion. South side of the building was covered but north side of it was open.

3-Necropolis:  It is on the eastward of the city. By a walk of one and half kilometers from acropolis hill to east, sarcophaguses and podiums can be seen on the both sides of the road. The Sarcophaguses are mostly under surface and their lids are open. They have Roman characteristic and have girland motives on them.
